Crime in the UAE

The crime has increased in Abu Dhabi and it has even reached the neighborhoods where the family lives; the killing crimes have reached the neighborhoods and Abu Dhabi is not safe anymore.

The definition of a crime is "an act or omission which is prohibited by criminal law and punished, usually by fine or imprisonment." (Odgers, W. B., the Common Law of England). The USA has suffered from the crime from the Mafia to the drugs gangs.According to the website (www.odmp.org) in 2009, in the whole of the USA 126 officers were killed while they did their duty. Even if there are no K.I.A (Killed In Action) in the UAE the crime has increased and specially in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Most types of crimes are in the GCC and not in the UAE only:drug gangs, rapes and the financial crimes have increased in a scary way in the last few years. The important reason for that increase is the method of the police in the UAE; they do not use the basic rules of safety in the street. The second reason is when the criminal comes with new ways the police in the UAE do not have any experience to deal with the new problem. The third, and I think this is the most dangerous one, is what the police officers have learned when they leave the police academy. They do not take anything seriously; only if one day we hear that an officer has been killed by a terrorist of by the Mafia so the police departments will weaken and find themselves with a big problem.
Before we think about the solution, what is the Mafia "The Mafia is oppression, arrogance, greed, self-enrichment, power and hegemony above and against all others"(Cesare Terranova, The Mafia, www.bestofsicily.com) so if the police want to deal with this type of organization the police should be ready to face this threat.
The first solution is that the headquarters of the police should tell every department be aware of dangers in every corner of the city even if we live in peace because one day everything will change. We are not an ideal people in this land and we are like anyone in this world. Second take the experience from the UK police and the USA FBI because they have good experience about the serial killers, organized crimes and the Mafia because the Americans have been dealing with it since the mid- 1930's . Third make a federal office in each city so we have the officers who work and solve the cases of serial killers, big robberies and kidnappings. They will improve the crime scene investigation departments so they will be able to solve the hardest crimes and find the killer.

"The police are called upon to maintain the balance between freedom and security" (Monica M. Moll, Sergeant). What the sergeant said is the general goal of the police which is that we feel safe when we see the officer.

In summary, the police work in the UAE should be developed. I'm not saying that I know more than any officer in the UAE but this is what I see and this is my observation about the police work in the UAE so in the end I hope they change the careless approach so we feel more peaceful. I hope that they know that we are not an ideal society and what I am afraid for in the future is that one day we will hear that an officer has been shot down while doing his duty. And I know from some people who I know very well and work in the police that they bring people from the UK and the USA but this is only the first step and we hope that we see the second step.
